It's a start, but no one's called a seat cushion 'hero' recently. You're getting the hang of it! Keep practicing, no matter how creepy your friends think you're getting. Learning the basics of mouth to mouth is very important. Go to the beach and look out for Sims in need and keep the beaches safe. No, there are no powers involved but the job of saving lives makes one a hero. (Sim Name) is now a part of a class of heroes. This job will always go from 10:00 to 18:00 (military time) regardless of what level you are on.
Jobs might not occur on these days if it's one of the festival days (see The Sims 3: Seasons). This job will always take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday regardless of what level you are on. If you are a rank 10 lifeguard and save 35 sims, you'll be rewarded a title of an uncharted island. For this career, you have to improve your athletic and charisma skills, other than doing jobs at the beaches to improve your job performance. This is a playable career, so you have to keep watching over people in the sea of the beach you are working on. Sims can join the profession by going to city hall or clicking on the life guard chair at the beach, in addition to newspaper and computer.
